Hope: Lost & Found
Update

Cat and Lynn first met on a school bus while accompanying their sons on a kindergarten field trip seven years ago; all of whom remain close friends today. Just after the Thanksgiving Holiday, they were discussing SOAC’s first project in Waveland, Mississippi and how the basic needs of families in the area were dramatically changing as winter was approaching: They were in need of warmer clothing.

Cat: “The lights just went off in her head, you could see it in her eyes. I knew it was going to be something wonderful!”

Lynn is an elementary teacher who knew the number of unclaimed items left in the lost-and-found of her school. She proposed to collect them and send them to where they were desperately needed and now. Needing approval of such She knew of a district-wide meeting the following morning which bringing the perfect opportunity to pitch the idea. They had to work fast; Cat made up a flier on the spot and she took it into school early the next morning for presentation and distribution. It was met with positive response, and embraced immediately by not only her school, but a high school and a few local businesses as well. (We can list them again).

Lynn: “It just took on a life of it’s own!”

In the end, nearly 200 freshly laundered, gently used jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts were organized by size ranging from 4 to Adult were shipped to Waveland.

Cat: “It’s a shining example of the difference one person can make for others just by taking action on a thoughtful concept. If we all just do a little – we can accomplish so much!”
