Help Support the Spirit of a Child Foundation
Benefit Concert

The Spirit of a Child Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, IRS Tax ID 20-2023465. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. We were incorporated on December 16th, 2004 and have three individuals who sit on the Board of Directors. The foundation has no paid employees and everyone who helps are volunteers.

To help fund the 2013 Parent-Child Project and future projects, as well as bring business to the local economy of the hurricane savaged Jersey Shore, Spirit of a Child Foundation is having a benefit concert at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ on June 16. The Stone Pony, a world famous music venue, is known as a starting point for many musicians, including New Jersey natives Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa, Jon Bon Jovi, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

This concert provides a unique opportunity for your business to engage with other businesses on the Northeast Coast and build brand recognition with a region of consumers in the midst of rebuilding. The concert is expected to draw more than 800 attendees and more than 20 sponsors of different levels. The headline celebrity band is the Marshall Tucker Band and the opening performing artists are Donovan Chapman and Band and The Nick Clemons Band.

2013 Parent-Child Project

Each year the foundation conducts the SOAC (Spirit of a Child) Parent-Child Project, a nature retreat for selected families to participate in environmental education and activities that require family members to work together and build healthy communication skills. This year we will be taking less fortunate families with an average income of less than $28,000 a year to the 2013 SOAC Parent-Child Project from Friday, July 26, 2013- Sunday, July 28, 2013, at host NorthBay Adventure Camp (www.northbayadventure.com) in Elk Neck State Park, MD. SOAC contacts various organizations across the United States each year to identify parents and children for participation in the project. The criterion for the families is that they are in a situation of financial hardship, such as a parent living with cancer, a family living in extreme poverty or a military family adversely affected by combat who may suffer from a physical or emotional injury, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or a loss of a parent.

At NorthBay, ten families, one parent and one child aged 7-14, and two adult chaperones will investigate and learn about the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay wetlands which includes access to a multitude of hiking trails within Elk Neck State Park. They will also experience the highest ropes course in Maryland, a newly-constructed low ropes course, 500-foot zip lines over the Chesapeake Bay, an indoor and outdoor rock climbing wall, a bouldering wall, game room, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, beach volleyball and an 18-hole disk golf course. In addition, SOAC is sponsoring a country music concert on Saturday night!
